50 Years Ago: Perham Man Killed In Truck Accident On Christmas Eve

50 Years Ago

-Ray Rebuck was killed on Christmas Eve when the truck he was riding in skidded and overturned on slippery Highway 10. The truck turned on its side and he was pinned between the truck and the highway.

-Donald Theodorson, electronics technician seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.O. Theodorson of Perham, is serving aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard.

-Erp Paavola came within a hair’s breath of rolling a perfect game at Lloyd’s Lanes. He had to settle for a score of 289 after his 11th and final ball left the four pin standing.

-Gene Dertinger, who has been in the hospital since November 11th, returned home on Christmas Eve. Gene fell from a ladder at the school and broke his leg. He will be at home for some time as he still cannot walk on the leg.

-Winners of the Herald Christmas Coloring Contest were Arlene Jacobson, 1st place; Keith Boyne, 2nd place; and Corrine Klepatz third place.

-Photo: Post Christmas snow hit the area Monday morning and by Tuesday it had dumped about 9 inches of snow. Frank Schwientek was out doing shovel duty at his home.

-Photo: 4 shops are being constructed in the Mini-Mall in the former Bauck Chevrolet Garage. Owner Bill Bauck is hoping the mall will be available by late winter.

-Senior Airman Christine Strauch-Diaz, daughter of Claude and Mary Strauch of Richville, has re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after being selected for career status.

-The ten thousandth Lund boat rolled off the line at 2:22 pm on December 22, 1988. It was a blue 1750 Tyee.

-Photo: This car was snowbound on Tuesday, Dec. 27 as nearly 10 inches of snow fell in the area. It was welcomed as very little snow and very little rain in the area has caused a drought.

-Jodi Lyn Loomer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Jacobson, graduated Cum Laude from St. Cloud State with a Bachelor of Science Degree.
