-They dug the basement for the new Municipal Liquor Store Tuesday. Work will start on an adjoining building which will house the Skogmo Store when finished. The buildings now house the UCB Insurance office and Lakes Café.

-Kathy Hagel of California and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Hagel of New York Mills has been selected queen of the Minnesota Club of the All States Picnic Inc., to be held in California July 4th.
-Photo: LeRoy, Jimmy, Thomas and Bernard Flath, children of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Flath, had a good two hour sitting in which they caught a nice bunch of fish on Rush Lake.
-Carl Backstrom has accepted the coaching position in the New York Mills High School. He will succeed Robert Bromme who will go to Madison, Minn.

-The Perham City Council agreed to financially help the Perham Lakeside Golf Course to expand their current 9 holes to 18 holes.
-Linda and Lonnie Perrine are proud to announce that Luke Zacharias Perrine, born April 1, 1987 arrived at their home on May 27. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Marlin M. Ziegler and Mr. and Mrs. Nash Perrine.
-Contact photo: Bed races have become a cornerstone of the annual Turtle Fest celebration. The McConachie Beach Resort has won the event the first two years and will be seriously challenged this year.

-Sampsa Soyrila of Helsinki, Finland, Meinhard Weizmann of Germany, and Kiyomi Kato from Japan were all exchange students in New York Mills this year. They felt it was “time well spent.”
-Eagles’ baseball varsity captain, Greg Karvonen, will cover the positions of second or third base as a member of the Minnesota All Star Baseball Squad June 18-19.
-Rodney McDowell, son of Charlene and Dale McDowell of Deer Creek, is the recipient of the East Otter Tail Extension Home Study Groups annual award of a $250 scholarship.
